Bret Steinmann Killed in Kyle Bicycle Accident on Interstate 35 near Martinez Loop; Elizabeth Mitchell Arrested

Kyle, Texas (March 15, 2022) – A bicyclist was killed Sunday night in a hit-and-run accident in Kyle, according to the police.

The deadly accident happened just after 10:00 p.m., March 13, on the southbound Interstate 35 access Road near Martinez Loop.

Police said Bret Steinmann, 26, of Giddings, was on his bicycle when he was struck by a vehicle driven by Elizabeth Jenell Mitchell, 35.

Steinmann was taken to the Ascension Seton Hays emergency room, where he was pronounced dead.

Mitchell fled the scene but later returned to the scene on foot and admitted to the crash and fleeing the scene. She was arrested for an accident involving death, as well as unrelated charges from Hays County. She is being held at Hays County Jail.

An investigation is underway.
