Mary Patterson Killed, Warren Howell Injured in Johnson County Two-Vehicle Crash on State Highway 171

Johnson County, Texas (April 26, 2023) – One person was killed, and another was injured Monday morning in a two-vehicle crash in Johnson County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 10:36 a.m., April 24, on State Highway 171, 5 miles west of Rio Vista.

DPS said a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox was traveling southbound on the highway when it veered into the northbound lanes and struck a 2016 Ford Transit.

The driver of the Chevrolet, Mary Patterson, 61, of Grandview, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Ford, Warren Howell, 41, was taken to Texas Health Harris Methodist, Fort Worth, with non-incapacitating injuries.

The weather condition was clear, and the road conditions were dry at the time of the crash.

The DPS is investigating the crash.
