The deadly crash happened around 9:45 p.m., March 30, in the 2000 block of West Cedar Bayou Lynchburg at San Jacinto Boulevard and Bush Road.

Deputies said a Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling westbound and was stopped at a red light waiting to make a turn when a Nissan that was traveling at a high rate of speed in the opposite direction crashed head-on into the Tahoe.

The force of the impact sent the Tahoe into a ditch.

The Nissan driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name has not been released.

The Tahoe driver was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Investigators said alcohol was found inside the Nissan. The authorities are working to determine if the Nissan driver was intoxicated at the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.

“When a person has suffered a grave personal injury in an accident due to someone else’s negligence, the most overwhelming emotion they feel is a sense of injustice.
