Di’ar M Johnson and Mason Mitchell Injured in Fatal Harrison County Two-Vehicle Crash on U.S. Highway 59

Harrison County, Texas (July 6, 2020) – Three people were killed and several others were injured Sunday afternoon in a rollover crash in Harrison County, two miles south of Marshall, according to troopers.

The fatal crash happened just before 4:30 p.m., July 5, on U.S. Highway 59.

Troopers said Felecia Sarah-Rach Jefferies, 20, of Marshall, was driving an SUV and was in the crossover facing east between U.S. 59’s northbound and southbound lanes, attempting to make a turn onto the Liberty cutoff. At the same time, Di’ar M Johnson, 21, of Memphis, Tennessee, was driving northbound in the outside lane of the highway.

Jefferies failed to yield the right-of-way to Johnson’s car and the vehicles collided. The impact pushed both vehicles into the east ditch.

The SUV rolled over before coming to a rest in a private driveway while the other car came to a rest facing northbound in a private drive.

Jefferies, who was not wearing a seatbelt, and an 8-year-old girl were pronounced dead at the scene. A 10-year-old boy was taken to LSU-Medical-Shreveport in serious condition.

Johnson was taken to CHRISTUS Hospital in Marshall with serious injuries. A passenger in the car, 21-year-old Mason Mitchell, also from Memphis, Tennessee, was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Another passenger, Edward Corielle Gray, 24, of Bolivar, TN, was taken to Christus GSMC-Marshall where he later died.

The crash remains under investigation.

We hope Di’ar M Johnson and Mason Mitchell recover quickly.

“When a person has suffered a grave personal injury in an accident due to someone else’s negligence, the most overwhelming emotion they feel is a sense of injustice. They often ask how such a life-altering event could have happened to them,” attorney Joel A. Gordon said. “The next question usually is, who can help me?” Mr. Gordon added.
