Jim Wells County, Texas (October 25, 2023) – Crystal Botello was among two people who were killed in a two-vehicle crash on Tuesday night in Jim Wells County.

The Texas Department of Public Safety said the wreck took place on Farm-to-Market (FM) 2507 and Highway 44, roughly three miles west of Alice on Tuesday, October 24.

Criselda Ramirez was driving a 2012 Dodge Caliber southbound on FM 2507. At the same time, a group of wild pigs were standing in the southbound lane.

Ramirez tried to take evasive action to avoid hitting the pigs. She then swerved into the northbound lane of FM 2507, where her vehicle collided head-on with a 2017 Dodge Rebel Ram 1500 that was heading northbound on FM 2507.

Ramirez died upon the impact while Botello was later declared dead.

The driver of the second vehicle who was not wearing his seatbelt was ejected from the Ram Rebel. He was airlifted to Bay Area hospital with serious injuries.

The two other occupants were transported to Christus Spohn in Alice with minor injuries.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the crash.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, bicycle, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
