James Young Hit, Killed by Two Cars on Highway 31 in Smith County

James Young Killed in Smith County Pedestrian Accident on Highway 31

Smith County, Texas (November 7, 2022) – The man who was hit and killed by two cars last month in Smith County has been identified as James E. Young, 59, of Longview, according to the authorities.

The deadly accident happened on Saturday, October 29, on Highway 31.

Authorities said Haley C. O’Brien, 23, of Bullard, was driving a 2021 Toyota Prius westbound on the highway while Justin M. Tracey, 28, of Flint, was driving a 2016 Chevrolet Cruze.

Young was walking in the westbound lane when O’Brien’s vehicle struck him. He was then struck by Tracey’s vehicle.

Young was taken to a Tyler hospital, where he later died.

O’Brien and Tracey were treated and released for non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
