Joe Henry Winningham Killed in Hale County Two-Vehicle Crash on I-27

Hale County, Texas (August 31, 2020) – One person was killed in a two-vehicle crash early Sunday morning in Hale County, south of Hale Center, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 1:20 a.m., August 30, on Interstate 27.

DPS said a 1996 Kenworth truck tractor that was pulling a trailer was heading southbound on the interstate when a southbound 1996 Ford F250 pickup came close to the truck and attempted to change lanes.

As it was changing lanes, the Ford rear-ended the trailer.

The Ford driver, Joe Henry Winningham, 76, of Llano, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The semi-truck driver, Thomas Ross Taylor, 65, of Barksdale, was uninjured in the crash. He was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
