1 Injured in Wrong-Way Crash on Interstate 10 in Orange County

1 Hospitalized after Orange County Crash on Interstate 10 near Highway 62; Carlise Coy Simmons Arrested

Orange County, Texas (July 18, 2019) – One person was injured Wednesday morning in a traffic accident involving a wrong-way motorist in Orange County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The crash took place at about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 17 on Interstate 10 near Highway 62.

The DPS said Carlise Coy Simmons, 75, was driving a Ford pickup truck on Interstate 10 when he drove up the exit ramp and traveled eastbound in the westbound traffic lanes.

Simmons sideswiped several vehicles and continued driving the wrong direction. The driver of an 18-wheeler swerved to miss the Ford and hit a passenger vehicle.

The Ford then struck the trailer portion of the damaged 18-wheeler before it came to a stop.

The driver of the passenger vehicle went to a hospital in Louisiana with minor injuries.

Simmons was determined that he was driving under the influence and was placed under arrest for DUI. He was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment before being booked in the Orange County Jail.

An investigation into the crash is underway.
