Alejandro Chavez Killed in Fiery Wrong-Way Crash on Interstate 45 in Wilmer

Alejandro Chavez ID’d as Person Killed in Wilmer Car Accident on Interstate 45 at Pleasant Run Road
Dallas County, Texas (March 6, 2019) – The person who was killed Friday morning in a fiery wrong-way crash in Wilmer has been identified as Alejandro Chavez, 19, according to a local news source.
The deadly accident was reported just before 4:30 a.m. Friday, March 5 on Interstate 45 at Pleasant Run Road.
As per the report, a Chevrolet sedan driven by Jay’la Sherley, 23, of Lancaster, was traveling in the wrong direction when it collided with a Lexus. Moments later, a fire erupted.
Chavez, who was a passenger in the Lexus, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Lexus driver sustained critical injuries and was taken to Baylor University Medical Center.
Sherley was also transported to Baylor University Medical Center, where she was listed in fair condition.
It’s undetermined if alcohol or drugs were suspected factors in the crash.
All northbound lanes of Interstate 45 at Pleasant Run were shut down through the morning rush as emergency crews worked to clear the scene. As of 11:00 a.m. the roadway was reopened.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the accident.
