Apolonia Gonzales Killed in Car Crash on Indiana Avenue in Lubbock

Apolonia Gonzales Killed in South Lubbock Two-Vehicle Crash on Indiana Avenue at 83rd Street

Lubbock, Texas (January 1, 2023) – One person was killed, and two others were injured Friday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash in South Lubbock, according to the police.

The fatal crash happened around 1:04 p.m., December 30, in the 8300 block of Indiana Avenue at the intersection of 83rd Street.

Police said Alma Gonzales, 64, was driving and was stopped in the center turn lane in the 8200 block of Indiana Avenue and was preparing to turn left onto 83rd Street. Austin Johnson, 28, was driving northbound in the 8200 block of Indiana Avenue and collided with Gonzales’ vehicle.

Gonzales sustained moderate injuries in the crash, while Johnson sustained minor injuries.

Gonzales’s passenger, 96-year-old Apolonia Gonzales, was taken to Covenant Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

The police are investigating the crash.
