George Melton Killed in 4-Vehicle Crash at Birdsong Street and Loop 281 in Longview

George Melton ID’d as Man Killed in Longview Pedestrian Crash at Birdsong Street and Loop 281

Longview, Texas (January 24, 2019) – The man who was killed early Tuesday morning in a four-vehicle crash at a Longview intersection has been identified as George Earnest Melton, 59, of Longview, according to a local news source.
The fatal crash was reported just after 5:30 a.m. January 22, at the intersection of Birdsong Street and Loop 281.
Responding officers found four vehicles which had collided at the scene.
Police said Melton was directing traffic after an initial crash when he was hit by a vehicle. The driver who hit Melton fled the scene after the incident.
Melton was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Police said the suspect vehicle was a tan or silver-ish gray 2003 to 2006 Lincoln Navigator which may have front-end damage to the left-hand corner.
The police are conducting the investigation.
