21-Year-Old Houston Woman Killed in Milam County Crash on FM 485

Milam County, Texas (January 11, 2023) – A 21-year-old Houston woman was killed in a fiery, head-on crash Monday night in Milam County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The deadly crash occurred just before 8:00 p.m. Monday, January 9, on FM 485, about 5.4 miles west of Hearne.

DPS said the 21-year-old Houston woman was driving a 2017 Volvo SUV westbound on FM 485 when she “passed when unsafe” and crossed into the path of a 2011 Ford F-350 pickup truck, driven by a 32-year-old Cameron man.

The pickup truck driver took evasive action and swerved into the eastbound bar ditch to avoid striking the Volvo. The driver of the Volvo tried to swerve back into the westbound lane but was unsuccessful.

The Volvo ultimately collided head-on with the Ford truck. The Volvo burst into flames after the crash.

The driver of the Volvo died at the scene. Her name has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

Further details regarding the collision were immediately provided.

The crash remains under investigation.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
