1 Student Killed, 2 Hospitalized after Train-Bus Accident on Cream Level Road in Athens

13-Year-Old Athens Middle School Student Killed, 2 Injured in Athens Train Crash on Cream Level Road
Athens, Texas (January 26, 2019) – A student was killed and at least two other people were injured in a traffic accident involving a school bus in Athens Friday afternoon, according to a local news source.
The tragic crash occurred at around 4:00 p.m. Friday, January 25 at Cream Level Road.
As per the report, the bus was struck by a train while it was crossing the tracks. The bus was then pushed 1/4 of a mile down the tracks before coming to a rest.
A 13-year boy from Athens Middle School was declared dead at the scene. A 9-year-old girl was trapped on the bus and was extricated by emergency crews. She was then taken to Children’s Medical Center in Dallas in critical but stable condition.
The bus driver was also taken to a nearby hospital with unspecified injuries.
There are no arms or lights at the railroad crossing, authorities said.
The crash remains under investigation.
