38-Year-Old Man Injured in Guadalupe County Train-Truck Crash at FM 1044 and FM 78

Guadalupe County, Texas – A 38-year-old man was injured Wednesday afternoon after his truck was struck by a Union Pacific train in Guadalupe County, according to the authorities.

The crash was reported around 5:00 p.m., January 31, at the intersection of FM 1044 and FM 78.

Authorities said the 38-year-old Lytle man was driving a tractor-trailer truck hauling a forklift and was stopped at the light heading southbound. The trailer sat on the railroad track as the man waited for traffic to proceed. The railroad crossing arm came down on the trailer and the driver couldn’t move forward because of traffic in front of him. The trailer was then struck by the Union Pacific train.

The man was treated at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries.

The train crew was uninjured in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, bicycle, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
