Dawson County, Texas – One person was killed and another was seriously injured Thursday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash in Dawson County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The fatal crash happened around 3:04 p.m., May 2, at the intersection of US-87 and County Road L.

DPS said 37-year-old John Villalobos of Lubbock was driving a 2023 Toyota Camry eastbound on County Road L, while 89-year-old Rex Zant of Lamesa was driving a 2019 GMC Acadia southbound on US 87.

Villalobos failed to yield the right of way at the stop sign and struck the Acadia.

Zant was transported to Medical Arts Hospital in Lamesa where he later died.

Villalobos was transported to UMC Lubbock with serious injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
