Joe Gordon III Arrested in Austin Unicycle Crash at West 6th St. and North Lamar Boulevard
Austin, Texas (February 11, 2019) – The hit-and-run driver who struck and injured a unicyclist December last year in Austin has been arrested, according to a local news source.
The accident was reported just after 9:00 p.m. December. The day of the crash was not mentioned in the report.
The unicyclist told authorities that he saw the ok signal for him to go through the crosswalk and as he proceeded on his unicycle, the driver of a Dodge Ram pickup truck began to turn. In the process, the driver, identified as Joe Walker Gordon III, 58, hit the unicyclist and knocked him to the ground.
Gordon stopped at the scene and exchanged information with the victim. He began to argue with the victim about him being at fault for the crash.
Authorities said Gordon refused to help the victim or give him his information then got back in his truck and fled the scene.
First responders arrived at the scene and noticed the unicyclist had scrapes on his right forearm and his left shin knee area.
Investigators later created a photo lineup, and the victim picked Gordon as the person who hit him.
Gordon was charged with failure to stop and render aid and his bond was set at $15,000.
